JP Heater Installation Guide

For Diesel and Electric Models

Installing your JP heater correctly is essential for both performance and safety. This guide outlines the key steps and best practices for setting up your diesel or electric heater in a campervan, motorhome, or caravan.

1. Choosing a Suitable Location

• Ventilation: Fit the heater in a well-ventilated area to prevent the build-up of exhaust gases.
• Fire Safety: Keep the heater away from flammable materials such as curtains, wood, and upholstery.
• Accessibility: Ensure the heater is easy to access for maintenance and servicing.
• Stable Surface: Mount the unit securely on a flat, vibration-resistant surface.

2. Fuel System (Diesel Models Only)

• Fuel Tank Placement: Install the tank in a protected, easy-to-refill location.
• Fuel Line Routing:
  • Use the blue fuel line between 0.5 – 1.2 metres from the tank to the pump.
  • Use the white/transparent line between 2 – 6 metres from the pump to the heater.
  • Avoid sharp bends or kinks, and ensure all connectors are secure and leak-free.
• Fuel Pump Installation: Mount the pump at a slight angle to reduce noise and ensure smooth fuel delivery.

3. Exhaust System

• Exhaust Pipe Placement: Route the exhaust outside and away from doors, windows, and air intakes to prevent fumes entering the vehicle.
• Heat Shielding: Use heat-resistant materials to protect nearby surfaces.
• Secure Mounting: Fasten the exhaust firmly to avoid rattling and ensure long-term reliability.

4. Air Intake System

• Ensure the air intake has access to clean air and provides sufficient airflow to support combustion.

5. Electrical Connections

• Power Supply: Connect the heater’s 12V power supply directly to the vehicle’s battery.
• Wiring: Avoid hot components and sharp edges. Use protective sleeves as needed.
• Fuse: A 20A fuse is already installed on the heater’s control board – no additional fuse is required.
• Polarity: Ensure correct positive and negative connections.

6. Heater Ducting

• Warm Air Distribution: Plan duct routes to evenly distribute heat throughout the vehicle.
• Avoid Restrictions: Keep ducts free from blockages or tight bends to maintain airflow.
• Secure Fitment: Attach all ducting securely to prevent movement or vibration.

7. Safety Considerations

• Carbon Monoxide Detector: Install a CO detector in the living area for added safety.
• Fire Extinguisher: Keep an extinguisher nearby and accessible.
• Regular Checks: Inspect fuel lines, electrical connections, and exhaust components regularly for any signs of wear or leaks.

8. Testing & Calibration

• First Test Run:
  • Important: Before first use, disconnect the fuel line at the heater and run the priming mode or turn the heater on to check system function.
  • Observe the startup, combustion process, and shutdown sequence.
• Leak Inspection: Check for any signs of fuel, exhaust, or air leakage.
• Heat Output: Confirm the heater is producing heat and distributing it effectively through the ducting.
